Day 18.
Today is a good day! Amy and I rented a taxi and went out to the hospital. Don even looked better than last night. He was still breathing half on his own, and half on the vent which was a major improvement. The barber had been in and shaved him and trimmed his beard. He did a great job. He has a great bunch of nurses that are so good to him. I brought his magazines and "specs" as the nurses call them. Another doctor was there and told me to bring his laptop tomorrow. I thought that was an excellent sign. So I'm going to bring it out. Whether or not he'll use it is another thing. He doesn't use it that much at home. But his email address is: donoldcycle@yahoo.com for any of you that are so inclined. But like I said, I don't know whether you'll hear back or whether or not he'll use it.
I spoke to his Doctor, Dr. Rackeesh Gupta, about a feeding tube. And he told me that he doesn't want to do something that invasive at this point. Hes hoping that he won't need it and he said we won't do anything like that if we don't have to. Again, waiting for several days to see where we stand. I asked Dr. Gupta if we could stay longer than the regular hours and he smiled and said "yes, as long as we" and I said "don't cause trouble"? lol And he said "well I was going to say be a nuisance". He told the nurses to let us stay. Of course Dr. Geeta here called him yesterday and told him to let us stay longer. He told her "there are rules". She promptly replied "You are the boss. Break the rules". And so he did.
He still has the tracheostomy. They got him up into a chair while we were there. But he had only been up 5 or 10 mins and apparently they had to do another test. So it was time for us to leave at that point.
But even his spirits were so much improved today.
So Amy and I are very encouraged today and left the hospital feeling very upbeat.
